About the Program

To prevent injury and death from severe allergic reactions at school sites, CDPH has issued a statewide standing order that allows California schools to obtain and store an emergency stock of epinephrine. This program is presented in partnership with the CA Department of Education and to support local medical emergency planning associated with California Education Code (EC) Section 49414, as amended by Senate Bill 568.

This standing order authorizes California local education agencies (LEAs), as defined in Section 49414 of the Education Code, including any state or federally subsidized childcare program operated by or under contract with the LEA, and private schools, to obtain epinephrine delivery systems to be stored at each school site. About the Program

In partnership with the CA Department of Education and the CA Department of Health Care Access and Information and to support local medical emergency planning associated with California Education Code (EC) Section 49414.7, CDPH has issued a statewide standing order for albuterol to provide emergency medical aid to persons suffering, or reasonably believed to be suffering, from respiratory distress in California schools.

This standing order authorizes a California school, school district, county office of education or charter school to obtain albuterol and if necessary, single-use disposable holding chambers, for elementary schools, junior high schools, middle schools, and high schools. Standing-order recipients are required to report on instances in which stock albuterol is administered to a person suffering, or reasonably believed to be suffering, from respiratory distress. For reporting, please fill out the Administration of Stock Albuterol Reporting form.
